About Us
Sandra Millward
CNP, Certified Nutriton Practitioner, Orthomolecular Nutritionist, BCRPA Educated Fitness Trainer
From a young age, I sought out a broad range of professional experience, working in London’s high-end restaurants, in the haute couture business in Paris and the film industry in Vancouver, Canada. But having children brought me back to my heart’s true calling: Wellness.
Wellness has always played an integral role in my life. Raised by hippie parents in Vancouver, who always strove to offer healthy meals to us kids, I was very conscious when I started my own family in the early 1990s that I wanted the same for them. I began to research nutrition in what little spare time I had and when my girls were old enough, I devoted myself fully to my studies.
In 1993, I achieved certification as a BCRPA certified fitness trainer and worked for three years at the Fitness Group in one of the most health-trend-setting neighbourhoods in Vancouver, Canada.
I went on to Whole Foods as a buyer, and then an assistant team leader. While pursuing my formal education, I worked as a consultant and broker in the natural food and vitamin industry. In 2013, after two years of study at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Vancouver, I graduated as a Registered Orthomolecular Holistic Nutritionist and am currently serving clients across North American and the UK.
I continuously update my skills and keep aware of the latest research. I am fortunate to have a highly respected and trusted professional team that I closely network with to compliment any issue that may reach beyond my scope, such as: advanced fitness training, massage, acupuncture, naturopathy, physiotherapy and hypnotherapy.
My most recent and exciting adventure has brought me to sports – I am currently working with Olympic athletes, helping them to achieve their peak performance. In 2015, I worked with the Canadian Men’s Field Hockey team as their nutritionist and wellness coach, accompanying them to Buenos Aires, where they competed in the World League Round 3, qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics. In January 2016, I toured Cape Town, South Africa, as a holistic nutrition chef and educator with the team.
In subsequent years, I have continued to be part of the travelling support team as the nutritionist and chef with the Canadian National Men’s team and have helped educate the Junior team and other athletic organizations such as beach volleyball at RYU and The Polar Bears Academy summer camps at UBC; as well, I toured with the progressive athletic training, Rob Short Coaching Academy. The buzz is out, athletes all over the globe are recognizing the value in having a holistic nutritionist as an integral part of the team.
My life is simple and rewarding. I’m active, walk my dog on the beach daily, eat well, spend time with wonderful friends and family, and have been known to enjoy the occasional glass of fine wine! Everything in Balance!
I welcome your questions and look forward to chatting with you about how Radiate Wellness can best serve your needs.
“Sandy was a vital part of our team’s successful performance at our Olympic Qualifying tournament in Argentina. Her depth of knowledge and ability to convey how different foods were going to aid our preparation and recovery made our jobs easier as athletes. Having Sandy overseeing our meals and snacks meant that we were optimally prepared nutritionally, and it took one more variable out of play and allowed the players to focus more energy on performing on the field. She was an integral part our qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games.”
“As an athlete nutrition is essential to optimal performance. Done right, it can make the difference between winning and losing. Sandra provided a fantastic insight into how nutrition can be formulated to suit many forms of performance stages. These stages include preparation, recovery, and maintenance. Her knowledge of foods, their nutritional benefits, and how they could be consolidated to have us completely prepared for the workload that was ahead was essential to the success of our tournament. I now have a greater understanding and appreciation for the significance of nutrition, its effects on performance, and ones general well being. I will continue to advise Sandra for advice and nutritional information.”
