Sandra Millward is a holistic nutritionist with the Regenurex Health Corporation who has seen what Astaxanthin can do to speed recovery in joints, reduce or eliminate pain and virtually turn back the clock for those seeking more active lives. Millward, based in Agassiz B.C., spoke over the phone recently about her passion for wellness, how she maintains a healthy lifestyle, and the benefits derived from super food, Astaxanthin.

Millward, having always had an interest in wellness says, “From a young age, I sought to develop a range of professional experiences, including working in London’s high-end restaurants, in the haute couture business in Paris, and in the film industry in Vancouver. But, having children brought me back to my heart’s true calling: Wellness.

“Wellness has always played an integral role in my life. Raised by hippie parents in Vancouver, who always strove to offer healthy meals to us kids, I was very conscious when I started my own family in the early 1990s, that I wanted the same nourishment for them. I began to research nutrition in what little spare time I had, and when my girls were old enough, I devoted myself fully to my studies.”

She continues, “In 1993, I achieved certification as a BCRPA certified fitness trainer and worked for three years at the Fitness Group in one of the most healthtrend-setting neighbourhoods of the city. I went on to work at Whole Foods Markets as a buyer, and then an assistant team leader. Next, while pursuing my formal education, I worked as a consultant and broker in the natural food and vitamin industry. In 2013, after two years of study at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Vancouver, I graduated as a Registered Orthomolecular Holistic Nutritionist, and am currently serving clients across North America and the UK. I continuously update my skills and keep aware of the latest research.”

Millward believes in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and walks her dog as much for the mental health benefits as for the physical benefits. She runs three days a week for heart health while also weight-training for anti-aging and strengthening effects. On weekends she hikes and meditates daily or tries her best.

Her work as a holistic nutritionist had been collecting research information for the athletes that she was touring with, to help get them ready for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. One of her goals was to help enhance the athletes’ recovery time, including reducing tissue inflammation periods.

She said, “We were travelling the globe on long flights, experiencing different climates, time zones, and of course, enduring the intense training to support them toward peak performance for their final push in their Olympic training. I was in search of the top cutting edge, health enhancing foods, nutrients, and lifestyle choices for these dedicated athletes. Along the way, one of the supplements that kept popping up in my research was a lesser known carotenoid called Astaxanthin. I first began experimenting with it for myself. My results were noticeable within three weeks. I experienced an 80 per cent decline of my minor aches, pains, and as an aside, my healthy skin was noticed by friends and family as having improved.”

Millward believes Astaxanthin is a “food-like” answer to natural pain relief, while strengthening the immune system. It is an inflammation and recovery solution that regenerates and reignites our cells, in place of medications, which, used over time, create an imbalance in our bodies and disrupts our natural healing abilities.
